Drive Medical Design & Manufacturing Enters into Exclusive Relationship with Michael Graves to Design Line of Durable Medical Equipment
Port Washington, NY - June 2, 2005 - In an industry first, Drive Medical is introducing a line of durable medical equipment designed by world-renowned architect and product designer Michael Graves, acknowledged as one of the most powerful brand names in the design world. "Graves will design an innovative line of products that will be available to our dealers in the spring of 2006. We recognize that great design coupled with the highest standards of function and ease-of-assembly is a competitive advantage that will set new standards for the healthcare industry. By providing new product opportunities and alternatives to our customers, we hope to counteract some of the potential undesirable effects of pending competitive bidding regulations, which we oppose," said Harvey P. Diamond, President of Drive Medical Design & Manufacturing.
Known internationally for design excellence, Graves and his firms have won over 175 awards. He was the recipient of the 1999 National Medal of Arts and the 2001 American Institute of Architects' Gold Medal. His innovative product design practice is responsible for more than 1,700 consumer products for companies such as Alessi, Disney and Target.
In addition to the experience of his architectural practice and its broad interest in accessibility issues, Michael Graves, who is a paraplegic, will bring his personal insight into this new area of design. Now back at work full time, Graves says, "I have a new outlook on how improved design can add ease and dignity to life for all people who are concerned with safety in the home and coping with disabilities. I am delighted to be working with a company as vested in innovation and value as Drive Medical."
Drive Medical is one of the fastest growing manufacturers of medical equipment in the healthcare industry. The dynamic company has achieved this success in part by incorporating product features that other manufacturers consider "upgrades" or "options." Drive offers one of the largest, most diverse product lines available within the healthcare industry, including the largest choice of colors and sizes. The company also manufactures the largest number of "tool-free assembly" consumer products that make set-up and installation easy and hassle-free.
The Michael Graves Collection for Drive Medical will include:
- Bath safety equipment
- Mobility equipment
- Aids to daily living
Michael Graves, who will also serve as a spokesperson for the company, says, "With our ultimate goal of designing products to improve the lifestyles of people young and old, I am pleased to partner with one of the most dynamic companies in the healthcare industry."
Diamond continued, "The enormous, now graying, baby-boomer segment of the population known for its keen interest in design will provide a major market for this line."
